Calf raises
Calf raises lift your heels off the floor while you hold a fixed edge of the desk, then lower them slowly: ten slow raises that work the calves and ankles.
How to do the calf raises
- Hold a fixed edge of the desk (not a chair on wheels).
- Rise slowly onto the balls of your feet.
- Pause, then lower slowly.
What it works
- Calves
- Ankles
How long and how often
In a movement break it's 10 slow reps, about 35 seconds in total, and it can come up in the “Hips & low back”, “Full-body reset” and “Quick reset” classes. It's meant to be repeated through the day in short breaks rather than done once; doing it regularly matters more than the exact timing.
Tips
- Straight up
- Weight through your big toes
- No bouncing
Who should skip it
- Poor balance or a fall risk: choose a seated move instead (Moveful does this for you when it's ticked in the health check)
Move gently, in a comfortable range. Stop if you feel sharp pain, numbness, tingling or dizziness.
