Running a Moveful pilot
A free 8-week pilot for up to 250 desk workers answers three questions for an employer or a partner: will people use it, do they feel better for it, and is it easy for IT to run? This page has the plan, the survey questions and the emails for staff. To start one, ask us about a free pilot.
The trailer
The 30-second trailer on the Moveful for Work page is recorded from the real app: a guide leading a break, the six guides, how IT rolls it out, privacy, then the price and the free pilot. Every message is on screen, so it works just as well muted on an intranet page or in a meeting.
- The file: MP4, 1080p, or 720p for email and phones.
- Where it helps: in the sponsor's pitch to leadership, on the intranet page announcing the pilot, and linked from the first staff email below.
- Partners may use it unedited in their own sales material. It ends on the Moveful for Work price, so for a partner-priced offer use the version without prices. There is also a vertical cut for LinkedIn and phones.
- Music credit: wherever the trailer is posted, include “Music: Ambient Corporate Presentation Slow Bed by Alex Morgan (CC BY 4.0)”. The track is licensed on that condition.
What the pilot measures, and what it doesn't
- Use: how many people keep it installed and take breaks. Moveful keeps no central records, so this comes from the short surveys.
- How people feel: discomfort in the neck, back and wrists in the last 7 days, and energy at the end of the working day, before and after.
- Whether they'd keep it, and what IT thought of rolling it out.
It won't show a change in sickness absence: musculoskeletal absence is too rare in a few hundred people over a few weeks. Present results as a service evaluation, not a clinical trial, and don't describe Moveful as preventing or treating anything.
Design
- Who: up to 250 people who work mainly at a screen, at one or two sites or teams. Anyone can opt out at any time.
- Comparison: if possible, start half the teams in week 1 and the rest in week 5 (a stepped start). Until then the later group gives a fair “no Moveful yet” comparison, and nobody misses out.
- Length: 8 weeks. A longer pilot, up to 12 weeks, gives habits more time to settle: ask us.
- Install: IT deploys the MSI (Windows) or package (Mac), or people install it themselves; the web app covers everyone else. Settings can be fixed through Group Policy or a configuration profile (deployment guide).
Timeline
- Week −2: set up
- Agree the teams and dates, IT tests the install on a few machines, the sponsor sends the announcement email.
- Week 0: baseline survey
- Everyone taking part answers the before survey (5 minutes).
- Week 1: launch
- Install goes out; the launch email explains what to expect. With a stepped start, the second group starts in week 5.
- Week 4: check-in
- A two-question pulse on energy and use, and a reminder of how to change the interval or mute it.
- Week 8: after survey and report
- The same questions as the baseline, plus “would you keep it?” and open comments. IT answers four questions about the rollout.
Survey questions
Run these in your own anonymous survey tool, not inside Moveful, and only report results for groups of 10 or more people.
1. Discomfort in the last 7 days
“In the last 7 days, have you had any ache, pain or discomfort in your: neck · shoulders · upper back · lower back · elbows · wrists or hands?” (yes/no for each). Based on the 7-day items of the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (Kuorinka et al., 1987).
For each area ticked: “How much has it bothered you?” 0 not at all … 10 as bad as it could be
2. Energy
“How energetic did you feel at the end of your working day, on average, over the last week?” and “How tired did you feel at the end of your working day, over the last week?” 0 not at all … 10 extremely
3. Breaks (both surveys)
“On a typical working day last week, how many times did you get up or move for at least a minute, apart from lunch?” 0 · 1–2 · 3–5 · 6 or more
4. After only
- “How often did you take the movement break when it came up?” (almost always · often · sometimes · rarely · I turned it off)
- “Would you like to keep using Moveful?” (yes · not sure · no), and “What would make it better?”
- IT: time spent on rollout; any support requests; any security or compatibility issues; would you deploy it more widely?
Privacy
- Moveful itself collects nothing: no accounts, no analytics, settings stay on each device (security and data).
- Surveys are anonymous, run by the employer, and reported only for groups of 10 or more. Individual answers are never shared with the employer's managers.
- If you link survey answers across the two rounds, use a self-chosen code word rather than names, and complete a short DPIA (template).
- Taking part is voluntary; people can opt out or uninstall at any time without saying why.
Emails for staff
Hi all,
From [date], we're trying Moveful with [teams]. Every 30 minutes of computer time it suggests a 2–3 minute break, and a 3D guide shows you simple moves for your neck, back, hips and wrists, mostly seated. You can snooze or skip any break, the Mac and Windows apps wait while you're on a call, and nothing about you leaves your computer.
There's a 30-second video of what it looks like here: https://moveful.co.uk/media/trailer.mp4
Before we start, please take 5 minutes to answer this anonymous survey: [link]. We'll ask again at the end, to see whether it helped.
Moveful gives general wellness guidance, not medical advice. If you have an injury or a condition, the health check in its settings leaves out moves that may not suit you, and do check with your GP or physio.
Thanks, [name]
Moveful is now installed [or: install it here: link]. You'll see the first break after 30 minutes of computer time. A few tips: pick your guide and language in Settings; change the interval if 30 minutes is too often; the mute button silences it during focus time; “Can't do this” removes any move for good.
Thanks for trying Moveful. Please tell us how it went in this anonymous survey: [link]. It's the same questions as before, plus whether you'd like to keep it. The results decide whether we roll it out more widely.

Reporting. Report changes as what people told you (“fewer people reported neck discomfort”), with the numbers answering both times. Don't claim Moveful caused a change unless a stepped start shows the same difference against the later group, and even then call it a pilot result.
