Accessibility
Moveful aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and to be usable without seeing the animation, without sound, and with only a keyboard.
What's there
- Not only the animation: every exercise has written steps, a timer and a text cue, so it can be followed without watching the figure. Spoken cues are optional.
- Screen readers: the break announces each exercise, side switch and hold, but not the ticking timer. The finish card, Settings, Your week and the class picker are dialogs that take the keyboard focus and give it back when they close. Home's week strip and each day in Your week's chart are read out, and the chart also has a table version.
- Keyboard: everything works from the keyboard. During a break: Space pauses, → skips, S swaps the exercise, Esc ends, and ? lists the shortcuts.
- Reduced motion: with your system's reduce-motion setting on, camera movement and decorative effects stop. The demonstration itself keeps playing, because it is the instruction. On the home page, the demo video doesn't start by itself, and it has a pause button either way.
- Sound is optional: chimes can be set to gentle or off, and every chime has a visual equivalent.
- Light and dark themes follow your system, and text meets AA contrast in both.
- Mirror view shows the figure as a reflection, so copying it matches the left and right instructions.
- Languages: the app, and the Mac and Windows apps' menus, heads-up and dialogs, follow Settings › Language (English, Spanish, Italian, German or French), or the system language when it's set to automatic.
- Health check: leaves out exercises that don't suit some conditions, or shows a reminder that the first move waits for while it's read. Seated moves only keeps every move in the chair, with a seated march in place of the walk.
How it was checked
On 28 September 2026, the home page, the exercise guides, this site's information pages and every app screen (home, settings, Your week, a break and the finish screen) were scanned with axe-core against WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, in light and dark themes, with no failures left. After changes to the app, the scan was repeated with axe-core's default rules on every app screen (adding the class picker, a due reminder and the first visit) in light and dark themes, in English and German, with no failures left. Starting and running a break with the keyboard alone (Tab, Enter and the shortcuts above) was also checked, as was opening and closing each dialog with the keyboard. There hasn't been an independent audit yet.
Known gaps
- The 3D figure has no audio description of the movement beyond the written steps and spoken cues.
- Screen reader testing on VoiceOver (macOS) and NVDA (Windows) is still to do.
